[CES 2010] The Highlights: Microsoft Keynote

January 7th, 2010 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Earlier today, I had some trouble getting live blogging to work… and I’ve learned that for me, live blogs simply don’t work for me. So instead, during the Microsoft Keynote, I only tweeted some of the major announcements they made. Here’s what I said:

  • Okay, will be taking notes on Microsoft the old fashioned way: pen and paper (electronically-augmented pen and paper, mind you).
  • They just announced that they’re having a “slight power problem”. Irony!
  • Nook on the screen [Editor's Note: This was on a slide that also showed the logos of many of their partners]. Is there going to be an announcement [Editor's Note: There wasn't]?
  • Fable 3 and Crackdown 2 in 2010. Also Halo: Reach [Editor's Note: In fall 2010].
  • Game Room: A virtual arcade on your Xbox and Windows coming Spring. 30 games at launch, over 1k over 3 years.
  • Natal this holiday 2010!!! (I promised you exclamation points)
  • Keynote ending seemed abrupt to me. No Project Natal demo – maybe it fizzled in the power outage?

There were a few other tidbits, but they didn’t make any product announcements, besides discussing the “Slate PC”, a new type of computer that looks like a smaller version of the Tablet of old, but without the keyboard that you could flip out. This isn’t actually one of their own products, but a line that they are working with computer manufacturer’s to develop. Perhaps this is Microsoft’s first step towards the “Tablet 2.0″ device?
