Today, Nevermet Press released the first part of their third publishing cycle. This time, they’re dealing with Brother Ptolemy, a rich man who, in seeking immortality, ended up messing himself up and finding his own life philosophy. It’s not an entirely original concept, but I got an early look at some of the articles, and they have outdone themselves this time.
Taking on a new identity for his new life – that of a monk named Ptolemy – he decided to spread the good news of his liberated existence. His first disciple was the thief who sold him the ritual, upon whom it was forcibly performed. Ptolemy then killed the thief’s body and immediately had him embalmed to prevent decay from setting in. The pair then returned to the long-abandoned von Brandt manor and set about laying the foundation for what would become known as the Hidden Kingdom.
Although I liked the two previous publishing cycles (The Desire, and Immeril Lithos, a Faustian villain), Brother Ptolemy and the Hidden Kingdom is the tightest, most well organized of all the cycles. It’s obvious that which each cycle, NMP is clearly getting much better. Here are some of my favorites that I saw out of the preview articles (besides the seed article, available now).
- Items of the Hidden Kingdom from the Thieves’ Cant- A collection of items that are used both by and against the Hidden Kingdom. A great collection of items; I actually plan on doing a Distributed Workshop for a few of these items. Speaking of which, Nevermet Press could use some more bloggers to do Distributed Workshops, be sure to check it out!
- False Charity from Ten Letter - One of my favorite articles in the cycle; it focuses on how the people the Red Monks visit react to them. It’s an interesting way to describe the villains without actually writing specifically about them. I would be interested in seeing more of these articles.
- The Red Harvest from Sea of Stars- An awesome plot hook that pulls into play any number of factions that you want; from the Hidden Kingdom, to the nobles who oppose it, or to a seemingly unrelated group of merchants. Even better, any of these factions could be behind it!
Also, something else – Nevermet Press is always looking for content developers, so if you’re interested, find out more information here!
