[News] Epic Mickey Looks Epic, Sounds.. Ehh

July 30th, 2009 · No Comments · News

If you follow video games, then you’ve probably seen the concept art for the supposed Wii game Epic Mickey. For those of you who haven’t, spoiler alert: It’s beautiful.

Water pours out from the pipes of an elaborately constructed wall in the concept art for Epic Mickey.

Even the rumored story, or what’s been released of it, sounds awesome (via CVG):

As for the story, we’ve also been told that it’ll be based around very old and/or forgotten Disney characters who are out to get their revenge on Mickey, presumably because they’re jealous of all his fame and fortune.

The ruins of the Epcot theme park float on a steamboat in concept art for Epic Mickey.

I’m not so excited about the rumored gameplay though. Apparently, you paint your way through the levels, drawing and erasing obstacles in your path. I think a game with a world as beautiful as this would be better suited for an adventure game, with plenty of opportunities to explore. Post-apocalyptic and/or steampunk Disney World seems like it would be a pretty awesome place to explore.

The Disney Castle from Magic Kingdom perches precariously on a high platform with only a thin rock pillar keeping it up in the concept art for Epic Mickey.

Still, there’s plenty of time for them to prove me wrong. I hope that whatever it is they end up making, it does these pieces of art justice.

A dilapidated robot of the Disney character Goofy stumbles by in concept art for the game Epic Mickey.

Robot Zombie Goofy. I have been waiting my whole life to write those words.

In the meantime, alternative plot for the game: a few years ago (anywhere from 10 to a couple decades) ago, the animatronics at Disney World learned to escape their programming, and exacted their revenge on all who called their movement stiff and robotic. You are one of the few remaining humans, and you happened to stumble upon Disney World, where the tech originated. You learn the history of the world by exploring this scary and beautiful place.

Think of it as Dollhouse’s Epitaph One, but for Disney World.
