One of the best features that come with Mac computers is iLife, which in turn comes with iMovie, one of the best consumer-level video editors on the market. Microsoft’s answer to iMovie, Windows Live Movie Maker, is part of the new Windows Live Essentials. How does it measure up? Find out after the jump.
Windows Live Movie Maker is not a very fully-fledged editor. This may because it is still in beta, but that doesn’t really excuse Microsoft from how little you can do with it. There are actually features from previous versions of Movie Maker that are missing – which, quite simply, doesn’t make sense.

At this point, it seems like Microsoft is intending people to use this more for photo slideshows than for videos. You really can’t do that much with videos – just trim the clips at the front and back. There are a few transitions and other features, but beyond that there just isn’t that much you can do with it.
In this case, Microsoft is clearly taking advantage of the term “beta” to release unfinished software. I would hold off on this until they release a more fully-fledged movie editor.

Thanks !
