Want to see the Forbidden City without having to go to China? Your wish is IBM’s command, as yesterday they announced The Forbidden City: Beyond Space and Time. This project, created in partnership with the Palace Museum, is a complete, accurate representation of the real Forbidden City. IBM spent three years meticulously developing the program, providing users with an opportunity to see the palace as it was during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In addition to walking around the Forbidden City, you can also participate in many activities that were popular hundreds of years ago, such as archery, cricket fighting, and the board game Weiqi (better known as Go).
The Forbidden City: Beyond Space and Time is a free download for Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux.
